As it can be used for a variety of purposes, bamboo is a fascinating natural material. That is why we wanted to share with you all its virtues !
Bamboo grows naturally and abundantly in Asia (China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam…) but also in some countries in Africa, America and Oceania.
Bamboo is a very rigid and strong material that can rise more than 30 meters (100 feet) high in its natural habitat. It is a fascinating material that allows multiple transformations, from the most simple to the most complex.
Bamboo has also a surprising growth speed, up to one meter a day for certain species, making it a renewable plant, in which it is less dangerous to draw : 3 to 4 years is enough for certains bamboos’ growth whereas certains trees need 40 to 100 years.
Bamboo is both flexible and solid, with an even higher compression resistance than wood or concrete, and a tensile strength not far from steel.
With such qualities, it was obvious that bamboo naturally became used as a material for construction and architecture, more particularly in Asian countries. But it’s not all !
Bamboo is also used to create all kinds of objects, decorative or useful (crockery, containers, kitchen tools, musical instruments …),different textiles,
bamboo shoots can even be cooked !
Above all, this unusual plant is also used in phytotherapy, because it is known for its remineralizing and antioxidant properties.
In brief, bamboo is an exceptional material with many resources and multiple uses, and by its growth speed, takes part in reducing deforestation on our planet.
